What are bed bugs?
Bed bugs (Cimicidae) are small insects, approximately 6mm to 9mm, that feed on hosts such as humans and animals. They are a brown colour before they have fed, but after feeding, they become a red colour. Bed bugs live in confined spaces such as mattress seams, bedroom furniture or any dark place that makes a good hiding spot. A small bed bug problem will multiply quickly as a female bed bug lays approximately 200 eggs in her lifetime, which equates to around 12 eggs per day.

Preparing for a bed bug treatment
To ensure all treatments are successful, we provide advice and guidance on steps you can take before and after the pest control service. It’s vital that before the bed bug control service, you do the following:
- Wash all clothing and bedding at 60 degrees C for 30 minutes. The high temperature will kill all adults and eggs on your fabric.
- Provide access to infested areas by moving furniture where possible. If you cannot due to mobility issues, we’ll offer a helping hand when we arrive.
- Hoover the infested areas to keep on top of the infestation.
- When we do the treatment, we may need you to leave the property for a few hours. But you’ll be made aware of this before our first treatment.
Once the treatment has taken place, we’ll require you to do the following:
- Do not hoover or mop for at least five days. This gives enough time for eggs to hatch and be exterminated by any insecticides we use.
